The newly appointed ministers for ICT and National Guidance have pledged to work closely and fight corruption in the country.
Speaking after taking over office in a ceremony presided over by the former ICT minister, Frank Tumwebaze (now minister of Gender) the two ministers, Judith Nabakoba and Peter Ogwang vowed to work amicably with all the agencies and technocrats in the ICT sector and other ministries and fight against corruption.
"I call upon all the technocrats to work together with the new team because we are here to make the sector better. We still have a lot to accomplish including the fourth industrial revolution. But if in the process anyone crosses the redline of corruption then we shall execute the orders of the Chief Executive who emphasized on need to fight corruption," Ogwang said.
Ogwang said, they have come with a purpose and the vision to propel ICT ministry to the next level.
Nabakooba on the other hand said, as new ministers in the docket, they will work closely with the technocrats to deliver their best for the development of ministry and the country at large.
“We shall lobby for support from cabinet but when we get, it should be put in the best use. We shall not allow some people to swindle our money”, she said.
The minister also asked the media to support government initiatives by promoting visibility in their publications. “There are so many things we do as government but the media is not publishing them. So, I ask of you the media to support government programmes”, she said.
Asked on what she will do to ensure safety of journalists while doing their work, Nabakooba said, government is committed in working closely with the media for peaceful co-existence.
Presiding over the handover ceremony, Frank Tumwebaze thanked the appointing authority for making him minister for ICT and National Guidance and now Minister for gender, labour and social development. He pledged his support to the new team.
However, Tumwebaze challenged the new ministers to come up with new innovative ideas which will propel our our country to digitalization. He said, the ministry should ensure all government entities go digital.
“If even H.E the President is online doing official government business then who are you not online. As new ministers, this should be ensured in all government entities for purposes of effective service delivery”, he said.
